

Nancy Jo Burke (nee Semrai), a lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Tuesday March 19, 2013 at St. John’s Riverside Hospital. She was 58 years old. She was born on April 26, 1954 to Joseph and Mae Dennehy Semrai in Yonkers where she was raised and educated, graduating from Blessed Sacrament High School. Mrs. Burke was a cook for St. Clare’s Friary and the friars at Sacred Heart Church for sixteen years until her retirement in 2011. She was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and her hobbies included cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. On August 26, 1972, she married Joseph Burke in St. Joseph Church. Mr. Burke survives and lives in Yonkers. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, William Burke and his wife Kelly of Elmsford, Scott Burke of Yonkers and Heather Burke Coffey and her husband Timothy of Rye, one brother, William Semrai of Florida and two sisters, Joann Neal of Cape Coral, Fl and Maryellen McDermott of Yonkers. She is also survived by her four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Semrai. Visiting Hours will be at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church on Friday March 22nd at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
