He was born in Ribamar, Portugal to José Antunes Neto and Rosa da Conceiçaõ on August 22, 1941. He was the youngest of 6 children and as a result was a very energetic child who loved to play. Ramiro was drafted to the Portuguese Colonial Wars in Guinea-Bissau in 1963 and served until 1965 utilizing his skills with fluvial river boats. He returned to Portugal at the completion of his service where me met and then married Lidia Anacleto Ferreira da Luz July 23, 1967 in Ribamar, Portugal. Like many Portuguese families during the dictatorship of Salazar, he immigrated to the United States with his family and siblings to have a better life. Ramiro worked several jobs in manufacturing and construction and eventually begin lobster fishing in 1975 enabling him to purchase a home in Yonkers. The family then returned to Portugal for a few years before permanently moving to Yonkers, New York in 1986. He started a small business and then entered the Laborers’ Local Union 1010 in 1987 and worked part time lobstering. He became a full-time lobsterman in 1995 when his sons joined him. The lobster die-offs in 2000 forced everyone to find new jobs and Ramiro returned to the Union where he worked until he was injured. His wife Lidia was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and died the following year. Ramiro enjoyed returning to Portugal twice a year where he would plant and take care of his gardens and orchards. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren. He also had a fondness for early Portuguese history and enjoyed sharing these historical stories. His first grandson was born in 2014 and two years later twin grandsons and a granddaughter in 2018. During Covid he still traveled to Portugal where he received a medal for service during the Colonial Wars and was entitled (O Homem da Guinea). At 2:15 PM in the presence of his loving sons, Ramiro passed away from congestive heart failure. He was preceded in death by his wife Lidia on May 26, 2009; brother José Ferreira Neto; sisters Celeste, Maria Antunes and Conceiçaõ Maçarico.
