Regina Bernadette Terry passed away at age 94 on May 17, 2021, with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was born in Yonkers on June 11, 1926 to Joseph and Mary Grady Newbrand. She attended St. Joseph's grammar school and Sacred Heart High School, excelling at both. On Jan. 28, 1945, Regina married her life-long love Maurice J. Terry at Sacred Heart Church while he was on leave from the U.S. Coast Guard. At age 18, she followed him to Boston and then to San Francisco, where they lived until the end of WWII and celebrated VE Day together. After the war, they travelled cross-country by train (dining on sandwiches served by Gold Star Mothers) and returned to Yonkers, where they settled down and raised their family.
Regina was always there for her children whether it was Brownie Scouts, sports or providing a home where friends were welcome to just hang out. To her adult children and grandchildren, she was a willing and able adviser, helpmate and ever-ready babysitter. She was selfless and giving and always there if you needed a hand. In the mid 1960s she began work as secretary to Dr. Erwin Rock and continued there for several decades until her retirement. Regina was an avid reader with a love for learning, a passion for truth and an interest in current events--traits she passed on to her children. She loved the beach, and she and Maurice took their grandsons on vacations to Wildwood, N.J., where they all learned to love and enjoy "Grandma's ocean." She adored her grandchildren, and in her later years found her greatest pleasure in her six great-grandkids. A year ago she lost her husband Maurice after 75 years of marriage. Together they set an example of love and devotion for all who knew them. She was also predeceased by their three sons Robert, Joseph and Maurice P. Terry, and by her brother Joseph Newbrand, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Kay and son-in-law Phil Amicone; grandsons Joseph, Brendan (Kristan) and Matthew (Caren) Amicone; and her cherished great-grandkids Julia, Ryan, Caroline, Colin, Connor and Madelyn. She was a great lady and we will all miss her. Viewing will be at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home 168 Park Ave., Yonkers on Friday, May 21 from 4 to 8 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 22.
