Salina resided in Yonkers, NY with her loving companion and beloved cat, Mr. Baby. Salina worshiped at Saint John The Baptist, Roman Catholic Church under Rev. Stephen P. Norton and Brother Luis.
She was born and raised in Little Italy, (Manhattan) along with her younger brother, Perry Gonzalez. As a young woman, she would listen to Frank Sinatra, Motown and the Beatles all day. One of Salina’s fondest childhood memories was watching the Ed Sullivan show and the Beatles when they performed for the first time in the US at Shea Stadium in 1965.
Salina’s greatest passions and joys were cross stitch, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her passion for this craft led her to create her own company, Creations by Salina, where she shared her beautiful creations with others. Her craft started when she would make clothes for her daughters and matching outfits for their favorite dolls. When Salina wasn’t able to shop at Gimbels or Macy’s for work clothes, she would go to the sewing store and pick out a few patterns and fabric and spent the weekend sewing outfits for the week. She would get compliments and questioned on where she bought her clothes from and she would proudly tell them that she made it. Salina was immensely talented.
Her other passions was none other than Starbucks coffee, sitting by the Hudson River with Mr. Baby, teaching people how to sew and knit at the Michaels store, Star Trek, reading mystery novels, listening to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Jazz music and Linda Ronstadt – What’s New. She would keep What’s New on repeat until her downstairs neighbor would bang on the door and give her his “enough is enough face” and simply say “What’s new?” That was her queue to play another song.
Salina received her early education at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel for primary school and St. Helena's for high school. She valued education and encouraged her loved ones to always pursue their dreams. She started out her career as a Transcriptionists of wire taps for the NYPD and moved up to having a successful career working as a dedicated paralegal for the New York District Attorney's Office and other top law firms. Her commitment to justice and her meticulous work ethic made her an invaluable member of the team. She would spend nights teaching herself short-hand and increasing her typing speed skills on a typewriter to make sure she was one of their greatest asset at the NY DA’s office. She was so proud of her career and would always say, “I can practice law without a license with the best litigators and run circles around them!” She worked as a paralegal for over fifty years and retired to start her next journey which became known as “Creations by Salina”.
God called Salina home on October 8, 2023. She leaves behind her two loving daughters, Sandra Davis (eldest) & Danielle Latten, two grandchildren, Dimitri Max McCray (age 9) & Nathaniel Alexander Fugah (age 6), one brother, Perry Gonzalez and her beloved cat, Mr. Baby.
Salina will be remembered for her generosity, wisdom, witty sense of humor and always encouraging someone to be better than yesterday. She leaves behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and creativity that will be cherished by all who knew her.
In honor of Salina's life, her final resting place will be in Orange County, CA with her eldest daughter, Sandy to start her legacy and charity foundation.
An art exhibition of Salina's handmade artwork will be announced in 3Q24 in Southern California and September 9, 2024, in NYC. Details will be announced on Salina Gonzalez's Facebook page.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.
