

Stephen Roberts, a longtime Yonkers resident passed away on Monday, September 23, 2013 at St. John’s Riverside Hospital after a brief illness. He was sixty eight years old. Stephen was born on December 13, 1944, the son of the late David and Veronica (Bybel) Roberts. He is also predeceased by his sister Sandra, (Roberts) Tamas. Stephen proudly served in the U.S. Army’s Special Forces Unit during the Vietnam War. He received many meritorious service awards and was severely wounded during a combat mission. Stephen worked for John Bisesi Studios of Yonkers, Sound Distributing of Mt. Vernon and the Yonkers Board of Education, retiring in 2008 after twenty years of service. Stephen is survived by his brother David and sister in law Maria of Yonkers, and loving nieces and nephews; Sheri (Bud) Britton, Jamie (Denis) Delango, David (Dana) Roberts, Kristy Roberts, and six great nieces and nephews. Stephen enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. In later years he became an avid reader, but most of all enjoyed longwalks with his two Westies, Buddy and Bailey. Stephen will mostly be remembered for this strong tough exterior but warm loving heart. We will miss you Uncle Steve. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, September 26th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Whalen and Ball Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on Friday, September 27th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
