Ben Scott Armstrong went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2023. As a devout Christ-follower, he has made it to his everlasting home, living his best life, in Heaven. Born in Geneseo, Illinois on September 22, 1943, to hog brokers Vernon and Viola Armstrong, Ben always lived his life with passion, vigor, and a little bit of harmless mischief with his late brother Rod Armstrong.
As a young man he was recruited to move from Illinois to Arizona by a high school coach in Phoenix to play basketball. He then went on to continue his education and play at Arizona State University, his alma mater, where he earned his B.A. degree in Education. It is here where he met the love of his life at the Library, Suzanne Louise Mitchell. They married in 1963 and had three children, Scott, Sabrina, and Sharlyn.
Ben was First Vice President and Financial Consultant with Smith Barney Shearson Consulting Group in Scottsdale, Arizona. He specialized in Futures Portfolio Management and specialized in selecting and monitoring Commodity Trading Advisors (CTA’s) for retirement plans, foundations, endowments, KTaftHartley funds and high net worth individuals. You may have seen Ben driving around the Valley with license plates on his cars such at CATTLE, BELLIES, and COTTON.
Ben was adored by his friends and family and is survived by his wife, Suzi Armstrong, children, Scott Armstrong, Sabrina Hayes, and Sharlyn Armstrong, son-in-law, Stewart Hayes, and 8 grandchildren, Lauren Armstrong Malo, Taylor Stevens, Reegyn Armstrong, Peyton Stevens, Stinson Hayes, Brayden Armstrong, Spencer Hayes, and Sadie Hayes. The Grandchildren will always have great memories with Grandpa Ben zipping around in his bright yellow Humdinger golf cart.
Ben was charismatic, funny, and full of life. If you were fortunate to have met Ben, you would not be surprised that he wrote his own obituary. Enjoy Ben’s self-written obit:
“Ben Scott Armstrong, 80, passed away December 24, 2023. If you have any information regarding this person, please call 602-828-67XX.”
