Dennis was raised in the Lutheran Church and attended Faith Lutheran Elementary School followed by Denver Lutheran High School, where he played football and basketball. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the Army, serving as an MP in Fairbanks, Alaska, and The Presidio in San Francisco. After his discharge, he returned to Denver, where he met Sandy in 1966. They married on January 21, 1967.
Dennis and Sandy raised two sons, Randy and Kevin. He worked for 30 years at Benjamin Moore Paint Company, initially in sales and later as an architectural representative. Upon retiring in 1997, he transitioned to a part-time position with a company providing transportation services for disabled individuals to their medical appointments. He loved that job!
After enjoying camping for many years, Dennis and Sandy made the decision in 2000 to embark on a full-time RV adventure, traveling extensively in their motorhome(s) for the next 16 years. Their journeys covered every state in the continental United States and they enjoyed many memorable experiences including volunteering at national and state park campgrounds, working one season at Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival, and two seasons working at a concession stand in Tempe, Arizona, during spring training.
Dennis loved playing horseshoes and they traveled a “circuit” of tournaments, including the national horseshoe tournament, becoming friends with many of the people they met along the way. Later at their “home base” in California, Dennis enjoyed a daily routine of playing pool with friends.
In 2016, Dennis and Sandy decided it was time to “hang up the keys” and settled in Sun City, having visited Sandy’s aunt, uncle, and cousin here many times over the years. Dennis enjoyed various volunteer roles, including delivering Meals on Wheels for several years and driving the bus for IHelp, a program hosted by Lakeview Methodist Church.
He is survived by his brother, Dean (Becky), who resides in Australia; sons Randy (Melondie); and Kevin (Kay). Additionally, they have five wonderful grandchildren: Brianna, Garrett, Grace, Matilda, and Stanley, as well as four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis’s warm and friendly demeanor endeared him to everyone he encountered, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
