George Lloyd Morin

He was born October 31, 1927, in Slayton, MN, to Alphonse and Esther Morin. George and his five siblings grew up helping on the family farm. He did join the Army where he received a Honorable Medical Discharge. He married Dolores Odenbrett, at St Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda, MN on October 11, 1949 and celebrated 68 years of marriage. Of this union there were four children. Gary (Martha) Morin, Jacobson, MN, Georgia (Bruce) Nygren, Lake City, MN, Lori (Roy) Hiebert, Surprise, AZ, Mary (Darrel) Halla, Owatonna, MN.

After marriage, George and Dorie lived in Windom, MN where George worked as a machinist and welder at TORO for 18 years. He also worked at Phillips 66 in Windom. In 1969 the family moved to Kasson, MN to fulfill George’s ambition of owning his own restaurant, The Boston Café. In 1974 they sold the café and moved to Owatonna, MN where they managed the Lincoln Square Apartments. He later was the Chef at Owatonna Eagles Club, earning the nickname “Chicken George” for his famous fried chicken. In 1987 they moved to Arizona. In Arizona, George retired from Jack in the Box Corporation where he was the District Maintenance Manager. After retirement, he worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken and Fry’s Food and Drug.

George is survived by his wife Dorie, their four children, 13 Grandchildren, 27 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren, his sister Dorothy Van Meveren (Slayton, MN), sister-in-law Rita Morin (Currie, MN) and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his sisters Venetta Hoebelheinrich, Esther (Dolly) Allen and brothers Willard Morin and Darrell Morin.

There will be a viewing and rosary from 9:00 AM until 9:30 AM on Friday, May 18, 2018, with the Catholic Mass following at St Clare of Assisi Church 17111 W Bell Rd Surprise, AZ 85374 at 10:30 AM.
