On December 16, 1935, Jan was born in East Palo Alto, California, to the late Constance and James Roland Nelan. She was the eldest of their three children. Jan grew up in California and graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School.
In 1955, she met Michael “Mike” Moysard at a servicemen’s club while he was in the U.S. Navy. Two months later, on October 28, 1955, they married. Jan shared her life with Mike, moving to San Francisco, California, Caldwell, Idaho, Midland, Texas, Orland, California, and Peoria, Arizona.
Before starting their family, Jan worked at Floyd Lowe’s real estate office and Hewlett-Packard. At 47 years of age, she started her own housekeeping business in Idaho, which she continued when she and Mike moved to Texas.
Jan was an avid reader; Hinds’ Feet in High Places was her favorite book. She loved singing, knitting, cooking, and her quiet time with the Lord. You were blessed to be on Jan’s prayer list. Jan delighted in helping people. Through the years, she volunteered at Need to Read and did a great deal of administrative work at church and Hospice of Midland. Jan freely and generously shared her pearls of wisdom and advice with everyone. She loved her children and grandchildren, though she did not agree with everything they did.
She was the beloved mother of daughter Mary, daughter Lora, son Damon (Kim), daughter Amy, and daughter Nikkol (Kyle). Jan leaves behind her granddaughter Jes (Bret), grandchild Krys, grandson Kaleb, granddaughter Keira, great-granddaughter Timorie, her aunt Ellen, her cousins Dawn, Steven, Carol, David, Sybil and Freddy, her niblings Curtis, Robin, Tammy, Robert, Toni, Dione, Jamie, Bridget, Moana, Danielle, Robbin, Renee, Aaron, and Rachel, as well as many close friends. Jan was the surviving widow of Mike, who died in 2010. Jan passed away on what would have been their 65th wedding anniversary. Jan survived her brothers Butch and David.
There was a private viewing for the family on Monday, November 2, 2020, at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, 11211 W Michigan Avenue, Youngtown, Arizona.
There will be a celebration of Jan’s life in Idaho in the spring. If you are her family or friend and would like to attend, please reach out to one of her children.
