

Lanny was born in Macon, MO to Paul & Willa Deane (Dunnington) Leathers on June 19, 1944. The family moved to Liberty, MO where Lanny attended Liberty High School. After graduation Lanny enlisted in the Air Force. He was a member of the Security Service and served at the Peshawar Air Station in Pakistan from 1963-64 and finished out his service at Scott Air Force Base in IL from 1964-66.
After leaving the Air Force, he was at the forefront of the birth of the computer industry. He became a computer programmer and worked at Midland International in Kansas City, MO for 12 years. In 1979 he became an Independent Contractor and spent the next 33 years travelling the country working numerous contracts until his retirement in 2012. Can you imagine the changes he saw in the computer industry in those 44 years?
Lanny loved the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, waterskiing, rv’ing and riding motorcycles and dirt bikes with his family and friends. He loved photography, taking thousands of pictures over the years. His love of baseball was infectious. He sponsored and coached his sons’ teams over the years in Blue Springs, MO. He also played in an Adult Baseball League in Tempe, AZ with his two sons. He’s been described as being an absolute natural hitter.
The family moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1984. In 2015, after moving to Sun City West, he took up Table Tennis. He was an avid player, averaging 6-8 hours of play per week. In addition, he became the photographer for the Sun City West Tennis Club and also took over management of their Website.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Haydter; sons Michael (Amber) & Marc; step-daughter Karen McCrea (Bill); 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild on the way; siblings Richard & Toni Jo Hart. He was preceded in death by parents Paul & Willa Deane, sister Becky Sue & ex-spouse Carol (Harvey) Leathers.
Lanny always said he was a problem-solver. He loved the challenge. He had a fun & outgoing personality and a wonderful sense of humor. He was caring and compassionate and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
No memorial service is immediately planned. The family will notify loved ones and friends in the future when a service is scheduled.
