

Paul “Paulie” Lessard, 74, of Sun City joined our Lord and Savior on October 11, 2019. He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of Philip and Therese. After graduating from St. Joseph’s High School in Lowell, he was drafted into the United States Army in 1965, where he served in Aberdeen, Maryland during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
In 1969, he moved to Nashua, NH and began a 20-year career with Sanders Associates/Lockheed Martin. He also was a professor with the University of New Hampshire-Manchester, teaching computer programming. In 1974, he moved to Hudson, NH and played an active role within his community coaching youth sports, serving on a suicide task force for 10 years, and was an elected council member for the town of Hudson, NH. One of his proudest accomplishments as a council member was implementing an insurance program for volunteer coaches.
Paul moved to Sun City, AZ in 1999 and continued serving the community by teaching defensive driving for AARP, supporting the ministry at Banner- Boswell, and supporting the Veterans organization of AZ for about ten years. His persistence paid off when he partnered with a local company who agreed to donate appliances to veterans in need. He also took a programmer position with the State of Arizona, retiring in 2007. He was a committed Boston sports fan cheering on the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics throughout his lifetime. He loved water-skiing at Lake Winnipesaukee, spending time with his family, and eating a traditional New England Lobster dinner with clam chowder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Therese; his sister Gloria and his former wife Joanne. He leaves his beloved wife, Maryjane; his son Jay; his daughter Christina and her husband Ryan. He’s also survived by two stepsons, Justin and his wife Ashley; Jarod and his wife Emily. Also known as “Pépère” of five granddaughters, Alyssa, Sara, Hanna, Haydan, and Khloe and two grandsons, William and Jacob, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Church of St. Joachim and St. Anne, 11625 N. 111th Ave, Sun City, AZ 85351, on Thursday, October 17th starting with a rosary at 9:15am followed by a funeral service at 10:00am. The burial will be at 1:30pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85024.
