Rory Benjamin Flint, beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, Army veteran, accomplished athlete, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home in El Mirage, Arizona. He was 63 years old, still full of youth, energy, and passion for life.
Born in Oakland, California to Coleman and Barbara Flint (who preceded him in death) but was raised in San Jose, California. Rory was a proud Raiders, Golden State Warriors and A’s fan. He was a proud product of a deeply loving family. From an early age, he was known for his charisma, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty. He went on to join the United States Army at age 19, launching a military career that spanned 31 years. His service took him across the country and the world—from California to Korea and Germany. Rory rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and trainer to young new soldiers. Through the years he kept in touch with many of his Army brothers, maintaining lifelong bonds with those he served alongside. Rory had career with the US Postal Service that lasted over 20 years before retirement.
Rory was a man of many passions. He deeply loved his family and friends and had an unmatched devotion to both. He took great pride in being a father to his son, Jason Flint (Gabriela), and his daughters, Talyia Flint and Risha McPhearson (embraced as his own), as well as bonus daughter Vanessa Beloney. His role as “Papa” brought him great joy, and he cherished his grandchildren, Aaliyah Flint and Kaedyn Tucker. He also leaves behind his sister, Melanie Flint, with whom he shared a deep and unbreakable bond, and his beloved nephews Kevin and Kamar Scott.
Athletics were always a major part of Rory’s life. A gifted track star at Silver Creek High School, he still holds records there to this day—a testament to his fierce drive and determination. He carried that competitive spirit with him through life, always pushing forward with strength and heart.
Rory had a deep appreciation for music and could often be found bobbing his head to the beat with a wide, knowing smile. He loved to share new songs with his loved ones and found happiness in the simple, soulful moments of everyday life. He also had a passion for automobiles—he helped rebuild a 1970 Pontiac Firebird with his father Coleman, cousin Clifton Bailey and lifelong family friend Frank Conner. It was always a dream of his to be able to own a red corvette and also customize a car. He accomplished both, he purchased a res corvette in Texas and customized an Impala just like he wanted fully loaded with peanut butter seats.
Above all, Rory lived with purpose, pride, and love. He made it a point to take care of those he loved and to ensure their needs were met. His warmth, wisdom, honesty, and humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Rory Flint’s life was rich with meaning. As you remember the moments you shared with him, may his spirit continue to live on in your stories, your laughter, and your love
