On August 11, 2024 Terry Boring received his very great reward and is now with Jesus. He was known for his love of family, pride in his grandsons, diligent work ethic and humility, and his love for Christ’s church.
Born on New Year’s Day 1943 in Kansas City, MO, Terry grew up in Albuquerque, NM until he left for Phoenix, AZ at the age of sixteen to work in the printing business. He was the third child of Wayne and Virginia Boring and the brother of Wayne Jr., Gayle, Vicki, and Margo.
From childhood, Terry loved cars: he loved to build them, work on them, and race them. In the late 1960s, he enjoyed racing his 1967 Shelby Mustang at Mel Larson’s Phoenix Dragway and Beeline Dragway.
Terry met Norma Sue Turner while they were both working at Sunland Mercury. They soon began dating and were married in 1969. Their daughter April was born in 1970, followed by their son Michael in 1972.
In 1978, he established his own printing equipment and service company Tab Graphic Equipment, which he ran until 1987. By the late 1980s, Terry had decided to transition into his calling for church ministry. Terry and his wife Sue both graduated from Sunset International Bible Institute in 1990. After preaching in several states, he eventually worked for Eastern European Missions in Vienna, Austria. There they printed and published Bibles and other materials in various Central European languages. While living in Austria, Terry and Sue made many trips to southern Poland, developing strong relationships with the schools in the region, teaching students the Bible and English. His deep love for the country and people of Poland never waned over the years. Terry also preached the good news of Jesus in North Carolina, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona.
During his retirement years in Phoenix, Terry acted as the communications liaison for the Arizona Churches of Christ. His love for the church and for singing led him to organize the monthly area-wide singing events for the Churches of Christ throughout Arizona. He also served on the board at Copper Basin Bible Camp.
Terry loved popcorn, ice cream, and Pepsi floats. He loved singing, working on and fixing things, and spending time with his family. Over his lifetime, he helped countless people move, loading and unloading boxes into new homes. He served those he loved, and he loved many, and he loved them well.
Terry is survived by his wife Sue, his children April (William) Bumgardner and Michael Boring, his grandsons Alexander, Samuel, and Gabriel Bumgardner, his sisters Vicki Casey and Margo Halsey, sisters-in-law Jean Thompson and Diann (Tom) Buffington, along with many nieces and nephews.
As the apostle Paul describes a life modeling Jesus, Terry lived his life boasting in Christ, willing to pour his life into others as a ”drink offering on the sacrificial service of faith.” (Philippians 2:17)
Terry Boring was a follower of Jesus, a good son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. We will all miss him terribly. As an expression of love and appreciation, memorial donations may be made to Sunset International Bible Institute, Eastern European Missions, or Copper Basin Bible Camp.
