

Alfred Mendez Lopez, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Yuma Regional Medical Center. He was born in Yuma, Arizona on May 20, 1919.
Alfred served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of WWII. He was a long time resident of Winterhaven, California and was a retired night custodial foreman at Yuma Union High School.
Alfred is survived by his daughters, Dolores (Gordon) Osborne and Amelia (Rudy) Ortiz; sons, Alfred (Mina) Jopez Jr., David (Mary) Burgess, Anthony (Carol) Lopez and Jim (Belinda) Lopez; step-children, Richard Avilez, Jenny Avilez, Frances Avilez and Dolores Santa Cruz; sister, Gregoria (Robert) Demara; brother, Chris Lopez. He is further survived by his legacy of 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Mike Lopez Sr. and Conception M. Lopez; wife, Conception Lopez; sisters, Rose Mendivil, Eufemia Mejia and Antonia Leyvas; brothers, Mike Lopez Jr. and Ralph Lopez Sr.
Viewing will be held at Johnson Mortuary on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Church service will be on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Saint Thomas Indian Mission Fort Yuma, California at 10:00 a.m. Father Duncan Monahan will be officiating. The Quechan American Legion Post 802 will be conducting military rites at Desert Lawn Memorial Park following the church services.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Gonzales, Joel Gonzales, Patrick Lopez, David Molina, Anthony Leyvas, Anthony Lara, Alfred Lopez and Jameson Lopez. Honorary pallbearers are Alfred Lopez Jr., David Burgess, Anthony Lopez, Jim Lopez, Robert Demara, Tody Sigala, John Dudek, Gordon Osborne and Rudy Ortiz.
