Donel Larry Davis

MSgt Donel Davis passed away on February 4, 2023 at Yuma Regional Medical Center after a month-long struggle with COVID. He was 75 years old at the time of his death. Donel was born in Long Beach, California, to Donel and Virginia (Ownby) Davis on November 3, 1947. He grew up in Long Beach, California, and was married at 17 to Marsha Taylor, shortly before enlisting in the US Marine Corps.

At the age of 29, Donel sired a son with Kimiko Uno, Taiyo W. Davis, who is currently a journalist. He divorced Marsha and later married Terry Lynn Sweet. When he was 31, they sired a son, LTC Donel J. Davis, who is currently an Active-Duty Judge Advocate in the Army. He later divorced and, in 1981, married Linda Sue Schoch prior to his tour of duty in Iwakuni, Japan. They remained married for the remainder of his life, which was 41 years. He retired from the US Marine Corps in 1987 after 22 years of active service, including two tours in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Taiyo and Donel; and grandchildren, Abbie, Connor, Donel, Nicholas, and Mila. He had four children who predeceased him. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service and his ashes will be scattered at sea.
