Born August 6, 1973 in Kirkland Washington, Edwin M. Jensen (Eddie) unexpectedly passed away December 15, 2020 at the age 47 in Yuma, AZ.
Eddie was born August 6, 1973 in Kirkland, WA. He is survived by his parents Daniel L. Jensen and Mary Lopez Jensen; wife of 25 years and high school sweetheart Jennifer; son Campbell, and daughters Abigail, Aidan, and Adleigh; four siblings Cynthia Owens, Jonathon Jensen, Amy Jensen Hillman, and Natalie Jensen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandmother
Eddie was a loving man who worked extremely hard to provide for his cherished family. At his death, he had served the Arizona Department of Corrections for over 22 years with his last position being the Warden of the State Complex in Yuma. He took his responsibilities in public safety extremely seriously, was highly recognized, and had gained the respect and admiration of employees throughout the state of Arizona. In order to better serve the community that he loved, he had just finished his Master of Education in Human Relations with distinction from Northern Arizona University in November 2020. He wanted to share his corrections expertise and love of teaching by becoming a college professor after retiring from the Department of Corrections.
Eddie was extremely passionate about coaching girl’s basketball. Having three daughters, and having experienced the opportunity of playing basketball at the college level himself, he was determined to give female athletes the same opportunities and resources to compete as male athletes. He spent countless hours coaching city league and travel basketball teams. This included starting Yuma’s first all girl travel organization ,Title lX, to give local girls the opportunity to play venues that would provide the exposure necessary to be seen by college coaches and recruiters. Above all, he wanted his players to love and understand the game.
Eddie was a lover of music, proud Yuma High Graduate where he was a member of the Yuma High marching band family, loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys, LA Dodgers, and Phoenix Suns, Eagle Scout, wickedly funny meme creator, and avid challenge coin collector. His latest challenge coin design still incorporated the Yuma High mascot with other Yuma landmarks to represent the community he loved and where he spent most of his life.
Eddie’s life will be celebrated and honored with two services being held on January 30th, 2021 at the Yuma Golf and Country Club at 12pm and 2pm.
