Esperanza was born March 3, 1937, in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, to Narcizo and Matilde Verdugo. She was the last child of six siblings. On January 27, 1968, she married the love of her life “Chapo.” He treated her like his Queen, and they built a wonderful life in Somerton, and later moved to Yuma, AZ until he was called to heaven on August 8, 1988. She never remarried, her heart was only his, forever.
She was an incredibly strong, God-fearing woman and she filled her life with family, friends, joy, and love. She was quite social and always managed to help everyone. She was humble and loving, and she had a fabulous sense of humor. She loved music, dancing, sewing, knitting and all kinds of crafting. She was a wonderful cook, and she loved her Folgers coffee.
Esperanza is survived by her two sons- Martin and Eddie Zavala and her daughter-in-law Veronica Zavala, her three stepchildren- Hector, Martha and Angelica. She has eight grandchildren: Brittany, Elizabeth, Clarissa, Eduardo Jr., Dezaree, Martin Jr., Evan and Adan, one great-grandchild, Alice and two more babies on the way.
Esperanza spent her most recent years being cared for by her loving family, her four Castaños niece/daughters: Mati, Jovi, Lina and Virgie, and her Angel/caregivers. She was very loved and she will forever live on in our hearts.
