

George Rowland Mc Meen, 83, of Imperial, California, passed away on 12/22/2020 from cardiac arrest at Yuma Regional Medical Center, Yuma, Arizona. He resided at Yuma Senior Living for the last 2 years in Yuma, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Wynona Mc Meen and dog Cesar.
George was born in Everett, Washington on 10/30/1937 to Bernadine and George Hobson Mc Meen. In his early years, his family followed his dad’s work from Florida’s Naval Air Base, to New York City, and to West Orange NJ. George received his undergraduate degree at Cornell Univ, Ithaca NY. When his parents moved to San Luis Obispo CA, George briefly attended Oregon State University in Corvallis and then transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) where he earned Masters’ degrees in History and Education. George served in the Coast Guard Reserves during the late 1960s-early 70s. While teaching in secondary schools in Pasadena CA, he earned his Ph.D. in Education from USC. Then he became a university professor at Moorhead State University MN and at University of Nevada, Reno. The last 20 years of his teaching career was at the California Dept. of Corrections, Calipatria where he was the Supervisor of Libraries and Supervisor of Education.
George was married to Barbara Harding from 1964 to 1993. Barbara and their three children, spouses and seven grandchildren survive: George Harding Mc Meen of Green Bay WI, Sarah Delevoryas of Broomfield CO and Peter Mc Meen of Columbus OH. In September 1994 George married Wynona Alexander in Bullhead City, AZ. They worked together for the State of CA until their retirement and enjoyed their many dogs and birds.
George was a man known for his intelligence, kindness and good humor. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Requiese in pace.
