Georgina Portillo

She came into this world on March 21, 1943 where she was raised on the Cocopah Reservation by her Grandmother, Lugar. There is where she learned life as she was taught to be a hard worker and responsible for herself. In her school years she was very outgoing and athletic. She was known as the fastest Cocopah girl around. As a teen she attended Phoenix Indian high school where she learned many skills and took up sewing as a wonderful seamstress. As she went on in life she took on a job as a seamstress for the Levi Strauss Co. where she sewed on the buttons and zippers. She also served for the Yuma Salvation Army for over 15 years, where she was dedicated and worked all positions.

Georgina was active in the church where she attended at the East Cocopah Assembly of God. There is where she was faithful in enjoying the word of God and singing praises to the Lord with her Husband Sylvester Portillo.

Georgina also enjoyed her many hobbies which were sewing, singing, dancing, bowling, and telling stories to her children and grandchildren. Her time relaxing was spent at the nearby Casino. She was proud of her Elvis memorabilia and of course her slew of collected ducks that she enjoyed talking about to all who would listen.

Georgina is survived by her children, Mandel (Kristina) Sanchez, David Paul Sanchez, Gina (Warrior) Nierenhausen, Candice (Timothy) Williams, and Lanisha Romero; Brother, Richard White; Sisters, Frances (Barley) Evanston and Pauline Allen; Cousins, Vivian Hill, Beverly Barley, and Mary Ellen Keiyote; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; 7 Grandchildren and 11 Great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Wilson Red River Papel and Jennie Barley; grandmother Lugar; sisters, Lena Rivers Papel and Priscilla Ann Brown; brother, Gilber Rivers.

Viewing will be held on July 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Kammann. Services will be held at East Cocopah Assembly of God on July 29 at 3:00 p.m. The service will be affiliated by Pastor Frank Gutierrez. after that we'll proceed to West Cocopah Cry House at 5:00 p.m. Georgina's final resting place will be in the West Cocopah Cemetery. The cremation is set for Saturday July 30th at 5:00 a.m.

Pallbearers include, Mandel Sanchez Sr., David Paul Sanchez, Daniel Lee Brown, Chris Brown, John Daniel Sanchez III, Michael Moses Sanchez, Mason Sundust, Timothy Williams, Warrior Nierenhausen, Elijah R. Williams, and Matthew Thomas.

Honorary Pallbearers include, Remigues San Diego, Corinthian Barley, Spencer White, Richard White Jr., Russel White, Naaman Allen, Rudy Allen, and Todd Duran.
