
Mrs. Helen J. Spencer of Yuma passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012.
Helen Joan "Jody" Logue was born in Whittier, California, March 24th, 1924, the youngest of six children to Thomas Leslie Logue and Pearle Lee (Mitchell) Logue.
Jody married Clarence Veldon Spencer on June 22nd, 1947. She spent the next 20 years moving 23 times as she followed "Spence" to various farming jobs in AZ and CA. They first came to Yuma in 1949. C.V. passed away in 2004.
She lived continuously in Yuma from 1963, and was a member of Yuma Mesa Homemakers, and quite active in Calvary Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran Church, Christ Lutheran School, and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Jody was one of the owners of Associated Citrus Packers here in Yuma. For many years she worked in the office for the farming operation of ACP, Spencer & Spencer Citrus Production, retiring in 2007 at the age of 83. She also enjoyed many summers at La Jolla Shores north of San Diego.
Jody was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and four sisters. She is survived by her children: William E. "Bill" Spencer II (Kathleen) of Yuma, Mark R. Spencer (Karen) of Yuma, Rev. Steven D. Spencer (Kathy) of Sierra Vista, AZ, and Carol Ann Olson (Courtney) of Centennial, CO, fourteen grandchildren, with some of whom she enjoyed a very close personal relationship; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A private service with the family will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church of Yuma.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks and great appreciation to the wonderful care our mother received at Palm View Rehabilitation Center of Yuma and Kindred Hospice House of Yuma.
