Jose Castanos De La Hoya, age 93, peacefully joined his loving Wife Matilde, only Baby Boy, Jose Jr and our Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 5, 2025, with his loving family by his side, in his home of 61 years.
Jose was born August 14, 1932, in Riverside, California, USA to Jose and Jovita Castanos. He was the fourth of seven siblings. He married the love of his life Matilde Verdugo on November 24, 1957. They moved to Yuma Arizona in 1966 where he lived out the rest of his wonderful life as a cherished, Father, adored Husband and beloved Uncle, Brother and friend to all.
Jose lived a very vibrant life, always surrounded by as much family as he could squeeze into each day. He loved the outdoors and chose a career in Citrus Nursery Agriculture. He had a magnificent green thumb and loved gardening everything. He also had a God-given singing voice that would hush a crowded room with his songs. He was an extremely devoted, compassionate man that always helped any and everyone. His generosity was legendary, and he was a true role model to all. His heart was as big as his personality, and he was blessed beyond explanation.
Jose is survived by his Sister Maria De La Luz “Lucky” Hoyos, his four Daughters and their spouses: Matilda, and Rigo Curiel, Regina Jovita and Rudy Gonzalez, Evangelina and Francisco Neblina, Virginia and Jose Solorzano, also 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren!
Jose spent most of his recent years being cared for by his four Daughters, his Granddaughter Davina and his VA caregivers. He was truly one of a kind, and to all whose lives he touched, he will always be the most beloved, blessed and favored Man… The kind that great legends are made of.
Rest in peace, sweet child of God.
