Karen M. Hoppe was a beloved wife, mother, sister, nurse, aunt, and friend. She passed away peacefully with her devoted husband and loving children by her side on July 4, 2025.
Born on January 13, 1949, Karen grew up in a close-knit family with four sisters - Mary, Janice, Jody, and Susie, and two brothers - Rick, and Kim. Her life was rich in love, compassion, and service to others where she learned at an early age growing up as the 2nd oldest in the family getting to help take care of her younger siblings.
On November 27, 1970, Karen married the love of her life, Orrin D. Hoppe. Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter and the joy of raising their two children, Sheila K. Hoppe and Christopher O. Hoppe. Karen took immense pride in being a mother.
Karen's calling in life was to care for others. She began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later became a Registered Nurse, dedicating many years to working in the critical care unit in Yuma, Arizona. Her skill, compassion, and calm presence brought comfort and healing to countless patients and their families. Her colleagues knew her as not only a very capable nurse but a generous mentor and loyal friend.
Family was everything to Karen. She was a very proud aunt to many nieces and nephews and kept a graduation photo of each displayed in her home. She was always ready to listen, support, and care for others - traits that defined her personally and professionally.
Karen is preceded in death by both of her parents Kim and Lorene Nelson as well as her brother, Rick. She is also proceeded in death by her in-laws Louie and Faith Hoppe, along with her sister-in-law Gretchen Boling and brothers-in-law Denny Sullivan, Bob Boling, and Jim Cornell. Karen is survived by her devoted husband Orrin, and their children, Sheila and Christopher. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Sullivan, Janice (Jim) Webster, Jody (John) Brengelman, Susie (John) Frey and brother Kim (Sue) Nelson. She is additionally survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law Bill (Angie), Lyle (Judy) Hoppe, Mary (Rich) Liss and Martha Hoppe.
A celebration of Karen's life will be held in Albion, Nebraska, on August 14th, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Levander Funeral Home.
