

She was born to Maria Lara and Aurelio Mejia Perez. Maria lived a life defined by dedication, compassion, justice, and strength, leaving a lasting impact on both her family and her community.
Maria proudly served as a Dispatch Supervisor for the Yuma Police Department, where she was known for her professionalism, organization, and took on an instrumental role in starting and coordinating the Annual Peace Officers memorial. Maria was also involved in the Fraternal Order of Police Yuma Lodge 24. She was also part of a significant moment in the department’s history, handling the first call during the transition from a traditional phone system to the centralized 911 emergency line for the Yuma area; reflecting her adaptability and commitment during a pivotal change in public safety.
Maria was a genuine and personable woman who connected easily with others. She had a deep love for music and a special fondness for animals and her ‘piggies’ that she would collect. She embraced every opportunity to travel, whether for work or leisure, always eager to experience new places and to create more memories.
In her quiet moments, Maria enjoyed playing puzzle games and crocheting, hobbies that reflected both her sharp mind and her creative, calming spirit.
She is survived by her beloved spouse, Ralph B. Lopez Jr., her brother Aurelio “Ray” Perez, her children: Joseph R. Rodriguez, Renee D. Lopez, Marcos B. Lopez, Tina Lopez, Ralph Lopez III, Chris Lopez, Michael Lopez, Joe Lopez, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; over 20+ to list. Maria is preceded in death by her daughter Rachel Rodriguez. Her legacy continues on through them and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Maria will be remembered for her warmth, dedication, and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will live in the hearts of her family, friends, and the community she so faithfully served.
A Wake will be held at Johnsons Mortuary at 1415 S 1st Ave, Yuma, AZ 85364 on Thursday, April 16, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, April 17, at 9:00 AM at St. Thomas Church located at 350 Picacho Rd, Winterhaven, CA 92283.
