Ord is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Claudia, and their children: Cathleen (Ted) Johnston, Caren (Keith) Swenson, Cynthia (Steve) Klumker, and Ty (Shelly) Cox. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Maxine Oden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zir Daniel Cox, Mamie (Deerman) Cox, and his stepmother, Edna (Horne) Cox.
Ord graduated from Yuma High School and went on to attend New Mexico A&M on a track scholarship. Ord's professional life was deeply rooted in agriculture. He started his career as a machinist in Arkansas and South Texas before becoming a farm manager and pilot in Yuma, Arizona. In 1984 he began growing Medjool dates for Winterhaven Ranch. An avid farmer, Ord also farmed Citrus, alfalfa, cotton and peanuts, he later began growing and harvesting his own date trees. He continued his involvement in the farming operations well after retirement.
Ord's passions extended beyond his professional endeavors. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, woodworking, and aviation. He was always eager to spend time with his family and share his interest with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved spending time outdoors and exploring the desert. Ord made his choice to serve God in 1989 and joyfully fulfilled that vow until the end of his life. He will be remembered by his steadfastness in all the things that he held dear. He was truly one of a kind.
Services to honor Ord's life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Johnson Mortuary, 1415 S 1st Ave, Yuma, AZ 85364. A viewing will take place at 9 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m.
