Richard (Dick) A. Myers passed away, July 8th 2017, at the age of 87 surrounded by his children at the Family home. Born in Nogales, AZ in 1929, he grew up in a rich cultural setting. He graduated from Nogales High School, spent a semester at the U of A returned back to Nogales to marry his high school sweetheart , Emma Carrasco, and went on to become the father of seven children, owning two businesses in Yuma, AZ, and building his one and only home for his family to live there for the next 68 years.
Many will remember him as the owner, operator of "Myers Union 76 Service Station" at the corner of 14th Street and 4th Avenue here in Yuma and would operate at that location for 40 years. He would continue working as a co-owner of Yuma Screens until his retirement in 1997, when he sold his partnership to his son Philip Myers. Many a high school boy, friends of the family and all 5 sons will never forget working at "Myers Union 76."
One of his greatest accomplishments was the raising of his 7 children with his wife, Emma. There were many times they thought they had more than 7 as the children from around the old neighborhood were always flocking over to see what was happening on 9th Avenue. He loved the outdoors, if he wasn't camping up in the White Mountains of Arizona, picnicking on Sundays in the desert washes of Yuma County, you could find him with his children water skiing on the Colorado River at Picacho State Park.
He is survived by his 7 children; daughter, Eline (Lee) McCain, Yuma; son, Richard (Kathy) Myers IV, Yuma; son, Philip (Debbie) Myers, Yuma; daughter, Leah Ann Myers, Yuma; son, William Myers, Rio Rico; son, Howard Myers, Tucson; and son, Jeff (Beth) Myers, Tucson; his sister, Sharon (Tom) Harrison, Long Beach, CA ...not to forget... 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Emma C. Myers; his parents, Richard and Ruth Myers; his sister, MaryAnn Geggis Hardy and his granddaughter, Lena Marie McCain.
He was a man with a strong work ethic, strong convictions and could be quoted saying… "I did it my way!" We love you, Dad!
The family would like to thank Sandy, Pam and April for their excellent care-giving skills and for their loving kindness to our father. Also, many thanks to Hospice of Yuma, Amedisys Home Health Care, and Synergy Home Care for their wonderful supportive staff.
Memorial services will be held at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, Tuesday, July 25th at 9:00am followed by a celebration of "A Life Well Spent." In lieu of flowers please give to Hospice of Yuma and the Parkinson's Foundation or a charity of your choice.
