Bob was born in Marion, Kansas on November 16,1930 to Robert K. and Mildred Walters. He was the youngest of three children. He graduated from high school in Ellsworth, Kansas where he was an all-around athlete. He joined the Navy following high school, then went to college at the University of Kansas and later transferred to Colorado State College of Education. It was there that he met and married Jacquelyn (Jackie) Mangan. During the Korean conflict he was called back into the Navy. He then returned to college where he continued his love of athletics, playing football and swimming. After graduation from college, he began his career of teaching and coaching in Colorado. In 1959, when Kofa High School first opened, he moved his young family to Yuma as the first varsity football coach. Throughout his tenure at Yuma High School District, he taught math, industrial arts, coached multiple sports and refereed. Eventually he worked in administration as athletic director and vice principal until retirement.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jane Tippett (Jim Bedoya), Mike Walters (Sandy), and Jim Walters. He was Papa to grandchildren, Kari Rico Lofton (Ryan Arenas), KC Pospisil (Michael), Oliver (Christine), Seth (Billie Ciotti), Jack (Alexis), Mick, and Maggie; great-grandchildren, Jake, Kingsley, Lilly May, and Lincoln.
Bob was a role model, especially to his children. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family and friends and that he was always ready to give of his time to help anyone. He was a true gentleman.
Bob was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife Jackie of 51 years; sisters, Virginia Walker and Nancy Morrison.
A private cremation will take place at Desert Lawn Memorial Park Crematory and a private family service will take place later this year.
