Sally was born in 1945 in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Pete and Frances Woodard whom she loved dearly. She also deeply respected their major contributions to the Yuma community. Pete, Frances, and Sally had many fun times together traveling to Mission Beach, CA, and visiting beloved family in Phoenix and California.
Sally graduated from Kofa High School and would later go on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree at Pepperdine University and her Master’s degree in Education at U of A. She married her high school sweetheart, Terry Simmons, and they had one child, Jill. The relationship ended and then she found the love of her life, Jay Sheridan, who she deeply adored. They married and had one child, Jay Sheridan Jr.
Sally enjoyed maintaining relationships on social media, genealogy, and traveling to see ancestorial sites in the UK as well as the US. She taught 4th grade at her alma mater, Alice Byrne, and also taught and was the librarian at Gadsden Elementary school and later became the Title 1 coordinator. She loved teaching her students and she also developed a dual language reading program that is used all over the world and is still cited in research. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Sally will always be remembered for her brilliant mind, excellent advice, clever wit especially in rough times, and strong love for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Sally was proceeded in death by her father Pete Woodard, mother Frances Woodard, husband Jay Sheridan Sr., and granddaughter Ana Victoria Sheridan.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill (Scot) Stacy, her son, Jay (Adriana) Sheridan Jr., and her 4 grandchildren, Heather (Tyler) Bennigsdorf, Lauren Stacy, Allyson Sheridan, Jay Sheridan III, and Bethany Sheridan.
There will be a memorial service for Sally at the Yuma Center for Spiritual Living on April 12th at 10 am followed by a reception. Flowers are welcome, and memorial donations may be made to Crossroads Mission in Yuma, in memory of Sally.
