Steven attended Yuma Catholic High School and the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Systems Management. He was currently working for Bayer Crop Science as an Agronomic Research Specialist, growing experimental wheat in the Yuma valley.
On the weekends, you could find Steven either on his boat at the river, fishing or riding his RZR in the desert. He LOVED Yuma and the outdoors and LOVED being with friends and family. Steven was a nurturer and would give anyone in need “a place to crash” and a meal. Giving to others was at the core of who he was. Many will attest that Steven never met a stranger and always had a big hug and kind word to share.
Steven is survived by his parents Tom and Laura Hurt and Steve McKelvey. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Frank and Hortense Castro and Ron McKelvey.
Funeral mass will be March 18 at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church with burial to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers for the services will be Darrin Basso, Greg Brown, Chamae Cyr, Sarah Dains, Dani Duran, Alex Podolsky, and Tom Terkelsen.
