Stewart was born in Buckie, Scotland as the youngest of 5 boys. He became a chief engineer on shipping vessels and travelled the world for many years. He’s worked and/or lived on almost ever continent in the world except for Antartica.
He was a funny, extremely smart and sarcastic fellow, rarely seen without a drink in his hand and a friend at his side.
He passed away in Yuma, AZ at 79 and for anyone wondering how an ocean world traveller would end up in southern Arizona in the desert, it’s because he loves his family more than anything else in the world. He moved to Yuma in 2011 to join his daughter, Staci Reidinger, while she was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma from 2010-2013.
Staci lived alone for 3 years with her husband and daughter remaining in San Diego. Once Stewart caught wind of this, he soon sold his business, home and most of his possessions and left Southern Louisiana for the warm, toasty Yuma to be with his daughter.
If there was something Stewart would want you to know today, I think it would be: Live life the way you want to live it; hold true to your values, true wealth is not what you have but WHO you have, and keep laughing to the end!
Oh and of course make sure you raise a glass of whiskey or some other distilled spirit in his honor. We all know he will be cheering with us:)
