COLUMBIA - A graveside service for William Edward Simpson, 49, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. There will be a livestream of the service on Dunbar Funeral Home – Northeast’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/DunbarNortheast
Mr. Simpson died Monday, March 15, 2021. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was a son of the late William Walter Simpson and Patricia Ann Thompson. Aside from family, Will’s greatest passion was his service to his country. Will was a 21-year veteran of the United States Army, who prior to retirement in 2011, achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served time on Active Duty during the Desert Storm Conflict then as a member of the S.C. Army National Guard. Will deployed to both Bosnia and Afghanistan, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for serving in a position above his grade as Infantry Platoon Sergeant. His love of service carried over into every aspect of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene Simpson; daughter, Natalie Simpson (“Chase Alti”) of Columbia, SC; stepdaughter, Hope St. Clair (Randy) of Chester, SC; stepson, Danny Sinclair of Chester, SC; stepfather, Jerald Bright of Columbia, SC; maternal grandmother, Carol J. Thompson; sisters, Carol L. Combs, Amber D. Fowler (Andrew), and brother, Guy E. Johnson, Jr. (Elizabeth), all of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Kylie Ann Simpson Alti, Cherish, Denslee, Dennis, Pierce Vaughn, Hollis, Ki Price, and Jonathan St. Clair, Peyton Sinclair; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia A. Bright and his father, William W. Simpson.
