It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Harold Augustus Skanes on Wednesday April 7, 2021. Born to Mary and John A. Skanes on January 4, 1930 on Bell Island, Newfoundland.
Survived by his wife Betty (nee Searle) of 69 years of marriage. By his sons Paul (Aggie) of Winnipeg, Dale (Linda) of Kitchener, John (Lucy) and Neil (Lise) of Cambridge. Also survived by the love of his life, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his two brothers and two sisters. Harold was predeceased by his mother, father, three sisters and three brothers.
Prior to a long and rewarding retirement, Harold worked at Aclo Compounders and Kayson Plastics. This came after working in the iron ore mines of Bell Island. Harold served as a former past president of the Cambridge Newfoundland Club and was also a long-time member of Trinity Anglican Church.
In accordance with the regulations of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario due to COVID-19, all events are restricted to a specified number of attendees. Please RSVP in advance by calling 519-621-1650. All visitors are asked to remain in their vehicles until their allotted time. Visitors are also required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. Friends and family are invited to Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m. Please follow the directions of the funeral home staff upon arrival.
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private Funeral Service will take place. Friends and family are invited to join in a live broadcast of the service by visiting the Coutts Funeral Home webpage on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11 a.m.
