Slim was born April 10th, 1927 at the old homestead in Clover Run, West Virginia to mother Effie Grace Hedrick and father Harry Patterson Sommerville. He had three brothers and one sister: Ireland Jackson “Jack” Sommerville, Mary Elizabeth Sommerville Rodes, Harry Roy Sommerville, and George Ancil Sommerville.
Crenton was affectionately called Slim by most who knew him. He was married to the late Fannie Skipper Sommerville. Together they had two sons James Sommerville and Harrold Sommerville. Harrold who predeceased him in 1998. His sons gave him several grandchildren, Deanne L. Sommerville, Peg Sommerville Tryonoviech, Renee Sommerville Pavonetti, Harry Patterson Sommerville, Amy Sommerville, and Amanda J. Sommerville. He also had two great grandchildren named Vincent Pavonetti and Sophia Pavonetti.
He was married to and predeceased by Gladys King. Then became longtime partner to Eileen Richardson residing in Barefoot Bay.
Slim grew up a farm boy who served in the Army in WW2 then came back home to raise a family. He worked with heavy equipment his whole life and was instrumental in helping build his church home. Which was Community Baptist Church with friend and pastor Ron Barber and was a charter member of the church.
His favorite pastime was traveling and camping. Over the many years he traveled all over the US seeing all he could see. In fact, in one treasured memory of brother Ancil, was of camping at the old family homestead with brother Jack, Jim (son) and Ancil in Jimmy’s new GTO.
