Pauline Rector Byrd, 95, of Chattanooga, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on September 9, 2021, with her family by her side. Pauline was born on July 26, 1926 in Scott County, Tennessee to William R. Rector and Parzida B. Rector. She was the seventh of eight children. After graduating valedictorian of Norma High School in 1944, she pursued work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory to help serve her country during the war. When her high school sweetheart, the late Roy Dennis Byrd, returned home from the war, they were married in 1947. After moving to Chattanooga in 1968, Pauline became a loyal employee of JC Penney for 46 years until her retirement at age 88. She was a member of South Seminole Baptist Church. She was well loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Byrd and six siblings.
She is survived by her two daughters: Sherry (Terry) Tucker and Debra (Mike) Blaine; Grandchildren: Richard Tucker, Chris (Marcia) Tucker, Lauren (Nathan) Wilson, Shelby (Ryan) Jones, Brandon (Rachel) Compton; Great Grandchildren: Alexander Tucker, Frederick Tucker, Hannah Wilson, Wesley Wilson, Andrew Tolle, Summer Jones, Addeline Compton. She is survived by her sister, Cloene Adkins, of Dayton, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Pauline will be held Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at Chattanooga Funeral Home, East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road. Those in attendance are asked to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. Family graveside service will be held Monday, September 20, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
