Margie Marie Mack Ray was born on January 31, 1922 in Pine Grove, Louisiana to William and Betty Mack. Margie was welcomed into the Mack family as the third child, and their family grew to eventually have six children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie D. Ray Jr., her parents, her siblings Earline Parish, W.D. Mack, Bruce Mack, Alvin Mack, and one son-in-love James Brady. She is survived by one sister, Betty James, her daughters Anita Cole and Nancy Brady. In her 95 years of life she became Mimaw to six grand-children, 14 great-grandchildren, and countless adopted grandchildren.
Margie’s family moved to Beaumont, TX when she was just six months old. She attended South Park Independent Schools, and graduated from South Park High School in the class of 1939. After graduating she attended Cheniers Business College and received her secretarial degree. She had a successful career for various companies, and spent 22 years as the secretary to the principal of South Park High School.
At the age of six she began attending South Park Baptist Church which led to many major milestones in her life. It was here that she became a Christian at age 13, and met the love of her life Sammie. She and Sammie were married on June 18, 1947 at South Park Baptist Church. Their marriage was strengthened by working together in many leadership roles within the church, and with various youth and children’s groups. Margie would go on to spend 60 years serving in church ministry.
Margie is fondly remembered as a woman of strength and dignity who loved to share her life with others. She was a true example of having a hard work ethic, and when she set her mind to something she would not fall short. While at times quietly stubborn, Margie strived to live her life in Christ like form. She was devoted to nurturing and caring for not only her family, but anyone who came into her life. Margie’s faith in God was shown in the compassion, and devotion she showed to others. Whether it was teaching Sunday school lessons, sharing books from her personal library, making crochet blankets for newlyweds and new parents, or carpooling children all over town Margie found joy in helping others. She enjoyed 95 years on this earth, and we are comforted to know she has received her heavenly reward for being a good and faithful servant.
