After a lengthy and courageous battle with MS, Pat left us peacefully on August 11th at Actionmarguerite in St Boniface.
She leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband of 51 years Roland, her daughter Carol, son-in-law Jeff, grandsons Troy and Brett, her sisters, Paulette (John), Lynn (Danny), Darlene (René), her sister-in-law Doris (Garth), many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Receiving her in heaven with open arms are her parents Roger and Thérèse Lalonde and her in-laws Eugène and Blanche Dupras. Mom’s huge smile and positive attitude, even in the most difficult of times, will be forever missed by all.
Mom grew up in St Boniface then later in Windsor Park. She spoke often of the many family camping trips and family parties when she was growing up. Mom obtained her RN at St Boniface Hospital and worked in different disciplines until settling in the nursery. She made many new friends in nursing, some of whom have kept in touch with Mom and celebrated class reunions with her. Thank you to Yvonne, Lorraine and Claudette, who visited with mom and shared nursing stories right up to her passing.
Mom and Dad were married at St Boniface Cathedral on July 20th, 1968. Like in her youth, the family gatherings and camping trips continued. Many fun times were had at Brereton, Caddy and Westhawk Lakes with immediate and extended family. Later on, regular trips continued to Westhawk after daughter Carol was born. Most days were spent on the beach, the Scenic Walk and at the Pine Cone Ice Cream Bar. Fast forward several years, Mom and Dad enjoyed a trip to Las Vegas and to Maui.
Hosting and attending theme parties with “the” sisters was one of Mom’s loves. The time and thought put into costumes and décor gave Mom something fun to focus on.
Then came grandchildren. Troy and Brett were the light of her life. The bond that they shared was irrefutable. The boys silently understood her limitations and always would bring toys to play with on her lap on the chair.
We cannot honor Mom without talking about Dad. Dad is the most amazing husband anyone could ask for. His love, compassion and nurturing character is beyond compare. He is the reason that she had the best life that she could have. His endless love and care for her from the beginning are unparalleled.
The family would like to thank the staff of Actionmarguerite for their nurturing care throughout her stay as well as keeping her comfortable while entering the final phase of her journey.
Cremation and a private family interment have taken place at Green Acres.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory can be made to the general fund of Actionmarguerite.
As your sisters said to you in your final hours, “Go dance Pat, be free, say Hi to Mom and Dad for us”.
