She was predeceased by her parents Mabel (Holzapfel) and Karl von Ferber and in-laws Cecelia (Runge) and Andrew Klein.
Penny will be remembered by David, her husband of 47 years, her children Kelly (Crystal) Klein and Kristal (Tyler) Dickie and her grandchildren Anakin, Olivia, Kingston and Hawken, whom she adored. She is also survived by David’s siblings Vernon (Linda) Klein, Darlene (Bill) McLeod, Francis (Clara) Klein, Marion (Lyle) Ballard, Jeananne (Kelly) Glacken, Andrew Jr. (Yolanda) Klein, Lorne (Donna) Klein, Sharon (Cary) Hewitt, Sheila (Jamie) Seiferling and their families, as well as numerous cousins, particularly her cousin Brenda Miller.
Penny grew up on the farm near Odessa, SK and graduated from Odessa High School. She got her teaching certificate from the University of Regina and went on to teach elementary school in Francis, Lynn Lake, MB and Canora. Penny and David were married in 1972 and lived in Lynn Lake, MB, Canora and Regina over the next number of years. Kelly and Kristal were welcomed to the family and Penny chose to become a full-time mom. In 1983, Penny and David returned to her family farm where she lived and worked until 2011. Throughout her entire life, Penny was an integral part of the farming operation, first with her parents and then with David.
Penny was an excellent cook and baker, a wonderful gardener, an avid reader and a volunteer in the community and church. Most importantly, she was the very best wife, mom and grandma. Her and David enjoyed many vacations over the years, particularly their annual trip to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, winter holidays to various hot destinations and time spent at the lake house in Katepwa.
Penny’s life was profoundly changed in December 2011 as the result of a motor vehicle collision. She suffered a severe brain injury and spent her last years at Wascana Rehabilitation Center, Unit 2-5.
The family would like to thank everyone at WRC including the physicians, staff, residents and families for the care, compassion and friendship they provided to Penny and her family.
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.”
A private family funeral will be held at a later date.
