Madeline Shimell was born March 18, 1937 in Valley Stream, New York and passed away November 5, 2019 in Kingwood, Texas. Madeline was a dedicated mother and when her children were grown pursued different passions. Some which included quilting, painting and postcard collecting. As she became a mature adult, she found herself volunteering at the hospital. Madeline accomplished finishing educational courses, which led her to teach Catholicism for many years. She was a devout Catholic, but her proudest accomplishment was being a volunteer in the school's Grandparent Program. This allowed her to spend time with young children where she taught many different things. This included spelling, speech, vocabulary, playing games and spending quality time with the children, especially the children with developmental issues. Though at the time she was visually impaired, had difficulty walking and was dependent on Metrolift for her travel, she still found a sense of joy and took pride in helping children. This came to an end when she had her first stroke; she will be remembered for helping others.
Madeline was preceded in death by her spouse, Arthur William Shimell; parents, Joseph George and Madeline Baran; sister, Rose Baran. She is survived by her son, Leonard Shimell & his wife, Margaret; son, William Shimell and his wife, Marybeth; and grandchildren, Clare, Tammy, Anna and Ashley.
