May 19, 1933 - November 14, 2019
Enid Ellis left a legacy of love, hard work, and generosity. Martha ENID Pittman Ellis was born in Childress, TX on May 19, 1933. She was the 3rd of five sisters and was raised in a loving Church of Christ home. Her faith in Jesus as Lord remained strong until her death on Thursday, November 14, 2019.
Enid attended high school in Denton, TX where her father owned and operated North Texas Electric. She attended Abilene Christian (College) University, the same college that her five children attended. Before marriage Enid worked as a secretary in Manhattan, NY. She met Johnny Ellis in Denton, TX and they wed in 1953. They had five children together and were married 26 years.
After her first child was born in 1955, Enid focused on raising children and running a busy household. She was the mother to one boy and four girls. She was famous for her quick meals of pot roast on Sunday, peas and instant mashed potatoes, and an array of casseroles. She had high expectations for her children and always thought the world of them.
Enid’s greatest achievement was leading five children through a spiritual journey that resulted in her son and four daughters becoming Jesus followers and committed to the Way, the Truth, and the Light. While all fellow strugglers, her family is most thankful for her commitment to directing and redirecting them to their Father in Heaven. She was the real deal when it came to faith. She was an active and devoted member of the Riverside Church of Christ in Coppell for over 30 years, and always encouraged her family to seek their own church community.
Enid was fiercely independent and self sufficient through a very successful residential sales and property management career in Coppell, TX. She was also a loving, loyal, and generous mother of five, grandmother of eleven and great grandmother of four. Lovingly called Honey by her grandkids, she was a constant source of love, direction, and (sometimes unsolicited) advice and counsel.
While claiming to be 39 years old (for over 40 years) Enid worked well into her 80s. Even in her final years of life, she remained the epitome of a hard working real estate agent, being awarded the RE/MAX Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. Enid was an assertive and customer-oriented Realtor who always fought for her clients’ best interest. Her success was cited in the many annual sales awards she earned at RE/MAX DFW Associates, the real estate brand she proudly represented and served for over 30 years.
“I am a Realtor” was a frequent statement made with intensity and pride. Being a Realtor was not just her profession but also her identity. She lived and breathed real estate and was usually the last one to go home from her Coppell RE/MAX office. She called that corner office at 500 Denton Tap her home. It was her happy place and where she was most comfortable.
Her work ethic was admirable, and she loved the real estate game. Yet, Enid was much more than sales transactions. What far surpassed her business endeavors was the love for her clients and RE/MAX associates. She loved her clients and her clients loved her.
We will always remember Enid, a loving and encouraging friend, hard working devoted realtor, a woman of faith, a kind and generous grandmother, and a snazzy dresser. Her relationships with friends, family, fellow realtors, clients, church family, and everyone who crossed her path were her true legacy. Everyone who knew her was made better by having known her. We will miss her, and we will see her again. Praise be to God!
Enid is survived by sister Jane Powers, son Rick (and Diane) Ellis, daughters Becki (and Terry) Cagle, Ann Ellis, Cecile Webb, and Janene (and Mike) Casey, eleven grandchildren: Justin (and Katie) Webb, Courtney (and Jason) Drysdale, Breanna Webb, Carlee (and Joshua) Kumler, Bryce Webb, J.R. Ellis, Phillip Ellis, Anna Casey, Caleb Casey, Joanna Theofanis, and AJ Theofanis, and four great-grandchildren: Henry and Abby Webb and Clark and Lucy Drysdale, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rather than Flowers….
Enid would not expect anything other than kind words and prayers for her family. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate your support of one of her favorite non-profits, Connecting Caring Communities. Son-in-law Terry Cagle is the Executive Director of CCC.
