Arthur Verne Schletty, known to love ones as Art, was born July 8th, 1942, passed away on the 16th of November, 2019. Art will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Art was born in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to Arthur Schletty Senior and Katherine Mae Freiling. Art grew up and was raised in South St. Paul, Minnesota. Art met his future wife, Karleen Knutson, in high school where they became “high school sweethearts” and married in 1962 starting a beautiful 57 year marriage together. Art graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. Art and Karleen moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1981. He retired from the Centers for Disease Control as Deputy Director of infectious diseases, and had a distinguished 40-year career with CDC.
Art was an accomplished, generous man. He loved fishing, listening to jazz, attending car races, traveling, and watching sports- especially hockey. His favorite place to travel with his family was St. George Island, Florida. Art was a friend of Bill Wilson for 30 continuous years.
Art is preceded in death by his mother and father.
He is survived by his wife, Karleen Schletty; Brother, Steve Schletty (Laurel); Sister, Linda DeMars (Mike); Son, Jeff Schletty (Jennifer) of Woodstock; Daughter, DeeAnn Spencer (Mark) of Dallas, Texas; Grandchildren, Katie Hunter (Harris), Ally Bruhn (J), Anna Schletty, and Lauren Schletty; and Great- Grandchildren, Clara and Avery.
A Celebration honoring the life of Mr. Schletty will be held on Saturday, December 7th, 2019 from eleven to two o’clock at The Gardens at Great Oaks, 786 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell, Georgia 30075.
