Sachiko Ozeki passed away with her daughter Connie by her side on March 22, 2020, at the age of 90, in Kirkland, WA. Sachi was the only daughter born on July 9, 1929, in Milwaukie, Oregon to Hikogoro and Taka Kuribayashi and the youngest to five brothers. Her parents took her and brother Toshi to Japan during their elementary school years, where she stayed through high school. Sachi returned to Oregon in the ’50s and later married Kikuo Ozeki and settled in Seattle. She moved to Kirkland after the passing of Kikuo and retiring from the Columbia Greenhouse to be close to family. In addition to Kikuo, she was preceded in death by her son Leo in 1960 from Leukemia and her brothers. Survivors include Connie and son-in-law Stanley Chinn; grandchildren Harrison, Sela, and Bryson; nieces, nephews, and cousins in the states and Japan.
Sachi was a member of the Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Temple and its women’s association. Remembrances can be made to the Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Temple or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. A memorial service will be planned after stay-at-home orders are lifted.
