Ruby Lee Edwards, age 95 passed away peacefully on June 20, 2020. She was born on February 20, 1925 in Jackson County, Tennessee to Perry and Leona Odum. She married the love of her life, Walter J. Edwards, in September of 1946. After 40 years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1987.
She loved people, especially her family, neighbors and church friends as she was a long time member of Central Pike Church of Christ. Her neighbors nicknamed her “The Mayor” due to her friendship and passion of the Seven Points area of Hermitage where she lived. She accomplished many things in her life, most notably wonderful art and oil paintings. She had a great appreciation for the beauty of the world around her, especially plants and flowers. Her life was a living example a vivacious and spirited personality.
Ruby was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and especially loved her role as Granny. She is survived by her son, Ronald D. Edwards and his wife, Barbara; her daughter, Jami Wilson Hall and her husband, Gary.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Anna Waldron (David), Joni Edwards and Robert Wilson; four great grandchildren, Lauren Wilson, Tucker Wilson, Cooper Wilson and Ronni Ann Edwards; four brothers, Herman (Kathleen) Odum, Homer Odum, Paul Odum (JoAnn) and Jack Odum (Geneva); and one sister, Eva Leslie (Charles). Ruby will also be forever remembered by her cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar Odum, Jim Odum and Herbert Odum. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24th at Central Pike Church of Christ beginning at 11:00 am. Celebration and Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Social Distancing will be observed during the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Pike Church of Christ Neighborhood Ministry, Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Efforts or Agape Nashville.
