Betty Ann “Betsy,” age 85, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, neighbor and friend to all that knew her, passed away on July 4, 2020 at Rose Garden Nursing & Rehab in Toms River.
Betsy was born on Jan. 18, 1935 at Dr. Butler’s Hospital in Caldwell, NJ. She and her sister Nancy were raised by their parents, Henry and Hazel, on Wakefield Place in Caldwell, where they were active members of the community and part of the local First Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed frequent trips to Gruning’s Ice Cream Parlor and loved to go bowling and roller skating with friends in her free time. She was known by all for her infectious laugh, smile, and great sense of humor.
After graduating in 1953 from Grover Cleveland High School, she started her career at Prudential in downtown Newark before marrying her high school sweetheart, Henry “Cy” on October 13, 1956.
After marrying, they moved to Miller Street where they started their family. They had two children, Jeffrey and Jill Ann, along with many beloved family pets over the years.
Betsy was involved in Boy Scouts, Brownies and volunteered at Washington School. Some of her other hobbies included sewing, needlepoint, ceramics, gardening, listening to music, crossword and handheld casino games.
They resided in Caldwell until the early 70s, when they moved the family to Brick Township after buying the Mantoloking Marine Mart.
In 1998, they retired to Lugoff, SC, where they enjoyed their golden years. They established a new relationship with family and also gained a network of fantastic neighbors and friends.
In retirement, her hobby of casino games grew to life size, bringing her and her husband to gambling hot spots across the country, including Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, and Biloxi, as well as back to NJ for fun and family time by the beach in Atlantic City.
In 2014, after Cy —her partner of 57 years — passed away, she returned home to New Jersey to be closer to her loving family. She remained in New Jersey until her passing.
Betsy was predeceased by her parents: Former Fire Chief Henry Hugo Scheidt and Hazel Ruth (Synder) Scheidt, as well as her beloved husband, Former Fire Chief Henry Adam Cymansky. She is survived by her loving children: Jeffrey Cymansky of Brick and Jill Ann Weck of Toms River; grandsons Ryan and Eric Weck; sister Nancy and brother-in-law John Fischer; plus several nephews and nieces.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
