A native of Haywood County, Linda was the sixth of seven children born to the late David “Frank” and Opal Edwards. After graduating from Bethel High in 1965, Linda attended cosmetology school in Asheville. It was during that time that one of her brothers introduced her to his friend, Vincent, who had just returned from service in the Marine Corps. The two were married on New Year’s Day in 1967. Linda and Vincent welcomed three children in the years following. Over the next four decades, they worked hard, laughed a lot and found immeasurable joy in watching their family grow.
Linda’s resume for The Inman Family, Inc. was extensive: chef, nurse, lifeguard, tutor, entertainment director, referee, chauffer and mediator. She was head baker and decorator of birthday cakes and held the speed record for picking night crawlers. Outside the home, Linda’s paid positions in retail and manufacturing provided opportunities to contribute to the household income and have fun—she was a professional cutup.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Vincent L. Inman; a son, Vincent D. Inman; a sister, Peggy Capps; and a brother, Carroll Edwards. Linda will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Angela Inman (James Webb); a son, Anthony “Tony” (Allison) Inman; two sisters, Marie Stanley and Marjorie “Margie” Southern; and two brothers, Charles (Annette) Edwards and Harold (Brenda) Edwards. Linda’s grandchildren, Branden, Sarah, Emily and Henry, and her great-grandchildren, Alice, Layla and Molly, will miss their grandma’s playful nature. Many other loved ones, including a special friend, Jerry Gibbs, will cherish Linda’s memory.
Though the family grieves their loss, they take comfort knowing the heartache Linda endured following the passing of her son and husband has been made whole through a heavenly reunion. And her effusive catchphrase, “I love you and God does, too”, will be held close in their hearts.
The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Riverside Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 2171 Lake Logan Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
