Jimmie Don Gipson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 5, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jimmie was born in Kennett, Missouri to James Charles “J.C.” and Avis Maxine Gipson (Baugher) on July 2, 1941. He married his sweetheart, Betty Vondran, on August 6, 1961 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. Jimmie was a proud United States Army Veteran. As a Sergeant and Medic, he served during Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Maxine Gipson; brother, Ronnie Gipson. He is survived by his wife, Betty Gipson; daughter, Lori (Ryan) McCloughan of Grandville; grandchildren Blaine (Shawna), Jimmie, Haley, and Collin McCloughan; 5 great-grandchildren.
Jimmie worked most of his life in the construction trade and was a master builder. He also worked many years as an asbestosis abatement contractor and an indoor air quality hygienist until he retired in 1998. To say that Jimmie enjoyed fishing would be an understatement. He loved fishing, especially with his wife. They spent their retirement years at Lincoln Lake and fished every chance they could. Jim was a strong man of faith, and was a member of Grand Rapids First in Grandville, where he served as an usher for many years.
He was a friend to everyone he met and loved to make people laugh at his silly jokes. He was loyal and kind, and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
