Gilbert (Bubba) Anthony Tavares, Sr., 70, of Fort Myers passed away suddenly from a heart attack at his home on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. He was born in Attleboro, MA on November 21st, 1949 to Gilbert F. and Amelia (Dias) Tavares.
Gilbert proudly served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in June of 1967. He was a retired tow truck driver. Gilbert’s places of residence include Rehoboth, MA, Pawtucket, RI, Clearwater, FL, Fort Hood, TX and Fort Myers, FL.
Gilbert is survived by his daughter, Peg (Ed) Markey of Fort Stewart, GA; Granddaughters, Alyssa Thomas of Texas, Stephanie Markey and Kayla Markey both of Georgia; Great Grandson, Michael Thomas III of Texas; Siblings, Lorraine Amaral of Florida, Pauline Dumont of Rhode Island and Reba Fennessy of Florida; Nephew, Thomas Kapp Jr of Florida; former wife, Cherie Tavares of Florida. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Genevieve Kestler of Rhode Island.
The family will celebrate his life with a private service and luncheon at the American Legion in November. We will always remember his favorite saying: “Carry On!”.
