In 1944, when he was three years old, the family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon. Ken grew up in Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro High School. He joined the Navy in 1958 and became a certified hard hat diver. In July 1962, after four years in the Navy, he moved back to Oregon. Upon his return, he eloped to Reno, Nevada, and married Carol Fisher, the love of his life, on September 1, 1962.
Among Ken’s various trades he was a meat cutter for fourteen years, before opening the Hillsboro Suzuki store, in July 1973, with his brother-in-law, John Howard. Ken had an eye for perfection, his most rewarding accomplishment was building custom homes, with Carol, for over twenty-five years, before retiring at the age of 60.
Some of the fondest memories were summertime family trips, cruising the San Juan Islands, fishing and crabbing in Depoe Bay and Newport, Oregon and traveling South with the motorhome and boat, teaching the kids to waterski on the Sacramento and Colorado River. He enjoyed spending many winters in Mexico and Arizona, meeting a lot of new friends. In 2015, Ken and Carol built a family get-away in Rockaway Beach, Oregon, spending countless hours deep sea fishing and crabbing with family and friends.
Ken is survived by his wife Carol, of 58 years, daughter Kristi and Tim Frawley, daughter Kandi Kresal-McCauley, son Bif and Shantrell Kresal. Along with nine grandchildren; Ashley Frawley, Jessica Coomes, Jack McCauley, James McCauley, Jacob Lewit-McCauley, Richard Young-Kresal, Kenneth Kresal, Jesse Kresal, Emelia Dominguez-Kresal. As well as three great grandchildren; Raelynn Turner, Crew and Cash Kresal.
The most important thing to Ken was his family and friends, he loved to go fishing and golfing. His smile and laughter would light up a room. He had a very distinct laugh, when you heard laughter you knew it was him. Ken was one of a kind, he will forever be missed and will always be in our hearts.
The Veterans presented the family with a flag during Military Honors at a private family gathering on November 6th. There was also a celebration of life held on November 15th.
