A dove is one of God’s most peaceful and loving creatures. Doves can symbolize a new beginning. Psalm 55:I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. CANICE CATHY MINES-SCOTT “IS NOW AT REST”
We come together as family and friends to celebrate the peaceful passing of Canice Cathy Mines-Scott. Canice departed from us on Friday, November 6, 2020 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born September 2, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio. This dove (Canice), was the youngest child of Charles Elston Mines Sr. and Catherine Mary Mines (deceased).
A graduate of Lutheran High East in 1978; Canice attended Cuyahoga Community College majoring in Education. Upon graduation, Canice immediately began her professional career in the banking industry as a teller at Society National Bank in Cleveland, Ohio. Never being a complacent person, Canice secured a certification in hospitality management from Cornell University. Canice’s certification allowed her to transition into the hospitality industry with Marriott Hotels.
In 1984 at the home of a mutual friends Kevin and Felicia Doby, Canice met the love of her life, Lisco “Randy” Scott. Love took them from friends to partners to husband and wife on July 4, 1987.
Life’s journeys took Canice and Randy to Delaware, back to Cleveland, Raleigh, North Carolina, Houston, Texas and now to Charlotte, North Carolina. Along the way, they had so many fond and lasting memories of our friends and family.
Canice’s real joy was children and her passion was her creative baking and cooking. Canice loved to entertain so she could show off her cooking and baking skills. Memories of her pound cakes, cookies and rolls put many a smile on all who were lucky enough to taste them! Canice often credits her mother Catherine for her culinary skills.
Many may not be aware of Canice’s love for reading, the arts, travel, and philanthropy. Throughout her life’s journey, Canice was a very giving person. It was vitally important to Canice to get involved in giving. Through her church affiliation or independently by donating and sponsoring various charities, giving was near and dear to her heart.
Canice’s departure leaves behind siblings, Cheryle (Maryland), Charles Jr. (Washington, DC), Clyde (Delaware); nieces and nephews, Shawn, Asha, Sakiliba, Ahmad, Paul, Era, Sophia; and god-children Jasmine, Jayla, and Nicholas. In prayer and celebration are her remaining loving aunties, and a host of cousins and friends all of whom she truly loved and cherished.
Be at Peace My Love…
A loving heart a special person.
