It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Hornby, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Bernice was 94 when she passed peacefully in her sleep at The Views, where she had lived for the past 8 months.
Bernice was a lot of fun - she had a love for life and enjoyed many activities. She was a decorated member of the Royal Purple – holding several offices including Honoured Royal Lady and District Deputy during her 45 years of service to the lodge. An avid curler, Bernice especially enjoyed the social aspects of the sport like bonspiels where she was eager to provide entertainment. She was always up for a game of cards –loved bridge, cribbage and poker the most – and she loved to travel. She was also a sports fan, always cheering for the BC Lions, Blue Jays and Canucks, and sometimes placing a wager at the horse track too.
Bernice was born in Blackie, Alberta and moved to the Comox Valley in 1967.
She is predeceased by her first husband of 25 years, Ellis Humphrey and survived by her husband Val who she was married to for 38 years; sister Jean; children Brenda (Mitch), Dennis (Pat), Garry, and Randy (Nicole); step-children Jim (Pui) and Catherine; grandchildren Corrine, Erin, Scott, Jai, Patrick, Chelsea, Brandon, Whitney, Christina, Natchanok, and Tanin; and great-grandchildren Ayden, Lukas, Sophia, Daryn, Cory, Adalyn and Mason.
Bernice spent most of her career as a grocery cashier for Woodwards and Leungs in Courtenay.
Her family would like to thank the staff at The Views for providing such good care in her final days.
