John was born on November 17, 1937 in Philipsburg, MT to Asa and Eleanora (Steber) Naef. On June 27, 1959, he married the love of his life Judy Etta Fessler, with whom they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage together. They raised two daughters, Paula and Lisa.
Everyone knew John was a Marine because of his many collections of flags, hats, stickers, shirts, you name it. After marrying Judy, they moved their family to Washington State. He was a general contractor and drywall hanger until he retired at the early age of 59.
He had a great passion for golf and played as often as he could. He often talked about “Shooting his age” and his 5 “hole in ones” were one of his great accomplishments on the links.
He loved his grandkids, Mallerie, Dustin and Janessa along with his great grandkids, Mason and Lucas. It brought him joy when they called him Papa and Pappi.
John was a simple man and you could find him purchasing his wardrobe at the thrift store in PBurg, each summer, as he found they donated funds to the local hospital. His restaurant of choice was Burger King.
John was preceded in death by his father, Asa, his mother, Eleanora and his brother Ron. He is survived by his wife Judy, his two children, Paula Naef Marvin, Lisa Thurston (Glenn), 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, his sister Marie, several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
John and Judy made annual trips to Montana visiting their hometown of Philipsburg. He was loved by young and old. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will not be a celebration of life at this time, the family will anticipate laying him to rest at the family plot in Philipsburg during the summer of 2021.
Rest in Peace Daddy, Pappi, Honey…God promised there are no frogs in heaven.
