It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Alvina Vendl (née Gerbrand), who went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 9, 2025, at Holmberg House in Abbotsford, BC.
Alvina was born in Abbotsford on October 2, 1971, and spent her entire life in the community she loved. A proud graduate of W.J. Mouat Secondary School (Class of 1990), she began her career at Tabor Home and later completed the Activity Coordinator program at Kwantlen College. Following graduation, Alvina worked at Hallmark Assisted Living, where she truly enjoyed her time serving and connecting with residents and other co-workers. She later continued her career with the Mission Association for Community Living (MACL), where her compassion and commitment to helping others touched many lives.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, Alvina will be remembered for her strong will, compassion, and deep faith. She met her husband Tom in 1988 through her brother Alfrid, and they were married six years later in 1994. Together they built a beautiful life and raised three wonderful sons — Warren, Jordan, and Adrian — who were her greatest joy.
Alvina loved family gatherings, Bible studies, and quiet walks with her beloved dog, Roxy. She found joy in traveling and RVing with her family, recently visiting Croatia, Europe, and Mexico. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends, always eager to try new recipes and share them at family gatherings. Whether cheering from the sidelines at her sons’, nephews’ and nieces’ many activities or welcoming loved ones around her table, Alvina brought warmth and love to everything she did.
Above all, Alvina’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She was baptized at the age of 25 and was a faithful member of Northview Community Church. She loved to share her faith with everyone she met and was never afraid to tell others what Jesus had done for her. Her life was a testimony of God’s love, and she was a constant source of encouragement and strength to her family and friends.
Alvina is lovingly remembered by her husband Tom, their sons Warren (Emma), Jordan, and Adrian, and her brothers Alvin (Lorianne), Alfrid (Julie – Cooper, Isabell, Samuel), and Jim (Patti – Gabby, Judah, Malcolm, Joe, Abraham). She is predeceased by her parents Diedrich and Tina Gerbrand. She will also be deeply missed by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends whose lives she touched.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. The burial will take place on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Maclure Road Mennonite Cemetery, 33965 Maclure Road, Abbotsford. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Northview Community Church, 32040 Downes Road, Abbotsford. Immediately after the service, a Celebration of Life and time of fellowship and memory sharing will be held at the church. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend.
Tom and the family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Holmberg House for their exemplary care, kindness, and compassion during Alvina’s final days.
Alvina’s legacy of faith, love, and perseverance will continue to inspire all who knew her.
